Formerly i’m used Mozilla Thunderbird 0.4 before upgraded to Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5. It’s take a long time to decide moving to new version consider incompatibility from previous version. Until i got posting to upgrade Thunderbird with a simple way. Here’re that you have to do:

1. Make sure you create a backup of Mozilla Thunderbird. Generaly you can backup entire folder at Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default\<stringname>
2. Rename the old Thunderbird folder. (e.g from Thunderbird renamed to Thunderbird-0.4 *since i use Thunderbird to store entire Thunderbird application module)
3. Extract the latest version to folder with the name exactly same as old version (In this case i extracted to Thunderbird folder).
4. Now you can smile… you have a new version which running smoothly…

The original instruction you can find out at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=58507
